Abstract

In spite of extension of mechanization in sugar beet cultivation and usage of monogerm varieties, still 10-15 percent of sugar beet farms are under multigerm variety cultivation. These varieties were used in small farms with limited mechanization. The multigerm variety Motahar was released in 2014, to cover the mentioned condition. According to the results, the sugar yield of the variety in infected condition was 8.4 t/ha which was better than the resistant check variety Aras (7.66 t/ha) and more than twice of the tolerant variety Jaam (3.65 t/ha). In Chenaran sugar beet factory region, Motahar produced 14.62 tone sugar per hectare and had good competition with the foreign monogerm variety Nagano (with 14.82 tone sugar per hectare) in 2013. In the same year, the sugar yield of the variety in demo cultivation in the Torbat-e-Jam factory region was achieved around 8.4 t/ha while it was about 10.6 t/ha for the foreign monogerm variety Dorothea. In 2014, this variety had the sugar yield similar to the check variety Aras (7 t/ha) in demo trial in the fields of Torbat-e-Jam factory. Motahar is a multigerm diploid variety suitable for spring cultivation in the rhizomania infected farms.
