Abstract

Plantago ovata is a valuable plant that its seed and husk is used in pharmaceutical productions and also its seed mucilage is used in food industries and health. The possibility cultivation study of this plant was performed by a randomized complete block design in eastern parts of Golestan province. For this purpose, seeds planting was considered based on 2, 4 and 6 kg seeds per hectare. The seeds were planted at a distance of 20 cm between rows manually. After harvesting, seed mucilage was measured by Kalyasvndram method. By measuring and comparing the 1000 seed weight, harvest index and mucilage percentage was revealed that these traits were not significantly different between plant density. The mean seed yield and mucilage had significant differences between the plant densities. The result of this study showed that isabgol was capable of producing seeds and mucilage in the environmental conditions of north eastern of Golestan province, therefore it could be recommended in cropping pattern.
