Abstract

To gain high yield of barley, it is necessary that growth and development stages of the crop be coincided with suitable weather conditions by selecting appropriate planting date and planting density. Since planting date and rate for barley cv. Sahra is not determinedthe present study was conducted to evaluate the effects of planting date and rate on grain yield and yield components of barley cv. Sahra. Asplit plot arranged in arandomized complete block design was carried out  using three replications  at agricultural research station of Gonbadin 2005-2006. Main plots consisted of  four planting dates:November13, November 28, December 13, December 28 and four rates of seed ing, 240, 270, 300 and 330 seeds per meter-2 were as sub plot.  The results revealed that the effect of planting date on grain yield, spikes per meter-2, grain per spike, kernels meter-2, 1000-grain weight, biologic yield and harvest index was significant (p<0.01). The highest and lowest grain yield was produced in November 13 and November 28. The effect of different seeding rate was not significant fior grain yield, and it seems that lower densities are appropriate. As a whole, planting in November 13 atseeding rate of 240 kernel meter-2is suitable for Gonbad-e Qabus weather condition.
