Abstract

Intercropping systems of management practices that lead to improved crop production by plant uptake and use efficiency of resources. The purposes of the experiment were Evaluation of growth indices and yeild of Sweet corn in row intercropping treatments with pumpkin. This experiment was done based on a randomized complete block design with four replications and 11 treatments at the Agricultural Research Station, Ferdowsi University of Mashhad during growing season 2014-2015. Row intercropping treatments were pumpkin with corn, sweet corn, sunflower, sesame and castor bean and their monoculture. Row intercropping of corn, sweet corn, sunflower, sesame, caster bean with pumpkin and their monoculture were considered as treatments. Traits such as plant height, leaf area index (LAI), dry matter (TDM), crop growth rate (CGR)and relative growth rate (RGR) caster been were computed accordingly. The effect of row intercroppingtreatments on the height, leaf area index, dry matter accumulation, crop growth rate  and relative growth rate row intercropping Caster bean with pumpkin showed that these traits was superior in pure culture. The highest plant height with 143 cm of monoculture was obtained. The highest LAI, TDM, CGR and RGR with 3.09, 718 (g.m-2), 13.62 (g.m-2.day-1) and 0.035 (g.g-1.day-1) of monoculture of caster been was obtained, respectively. The maximum seed yield of caster bean were belonged to their monoculture with 176.69 g.m-2. The highest land equivalent ratio for row intercropping caster been with pumpkin with 1/25 Calculated. Intercropping evaluation of each crop with using of land equivalent ratio (LER>1) showed usefulness of intercropping systems to sole cropping systems
